Honolulu -- Today Mayor Kirk Caldwell and Councilmember Joey Manahan announced that the City and County of Honolulu's TheBus will operate Route 2 (School Street-Waikīkī) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, beginning at midnight on Sunday, December 3, 2017.

Just in time for the holidays, TheBus will permanently extend the hours of operations for Route 2, one of Honolulu's busiest lines, serving neighborhoods in Kalihi, Chinatown, Downtown, Makiki, Pāwaʻa, Waikīkī, and Kapahulu 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

With its bustling economy, low unemployment, and growing tourism market, Honolulu has developed into a 24-hour city.Route 2 currently serves the densest areas of urban Honolulu and is one of the busiest bus routes in the nation; over 103,000 thousand jobs and 93,000 residents (not including tourists) are within a quarter mile of Route 2's bus stops (see map below).

"This expansion of Route 2 service represents the continued fulfillment of one of my top priorities as mayor and demonstrates our commitment to provide improved mobility for O‘ahu's urban core, while also improving our award-winning service for TheBus," said Mayor Caldwell. "Honolulu's residents and visitors who live, work, and play along Route 2 can now connect to the existing 24-hour service for Route 40 between Ala Moana Center and Mākaha, and residents who depend on this popular route no longer have to worry about missing the last bus."

For more information on Route 2's new weekday, weekend, and holiday schedules, please see www.thebus.org/route/Timetables/Rt2_new.pdf; for all other TheBus information and schedules, please go to www.thebus.org or call (808) 848-5555. Real-time bus arrivals can be found at hea.thebus.org.
