Online vehicle registrations climb 30 percent across Oahu

HONOLULU – Renewing a vehicle registration has become increasingly just a click away on a phone, tablet or computer for Oahu motorists.

Online vehicle registrations in the City and County of Honolulu stood at 244,337 in 2020, up 30 percent from a year earlier.

The surge in online vehicle registrations during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic coincides with a fourfold spike in use of the Hawaii DMV Now self-service kiosks in 2020, when the free-standing machines processed and printed 128,374 vehicle registrations and emblems on demand at seven supermarkets across Oahu.

Taken together, online and the self-service kiosks accounted for more than half of the 704,766 vehicle registrations that were renewed on Oahu last year.

“The growing interest we are seeing in these two options for renewing vehicle registrations fits in with our larger ambitions to use technology to help residents perform basic government functions more easily than ever before,” said Department of Customer Services Director Nola Miyasaki.
