SFCA Arts Education Programs
Artists in the Schools 2023-2024 Information Sessions
Artists in the Schools information sessions are being held online (December 5, January 10, February 8, and March 9, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.). These information sessions are for Hawaiʻi public and charter schools interested in applying. Register on Zoom: AITS Information Sessions.
The SFCA Artists in the Schools program for Hawaiʻi public and charter schools brings qualified, vetted teaching artists from the SFCA’s Artistic Teaching Partners (ATP) Roster into grades PreK-12 classrooms to provide engaging, creative, and fun learning experiences. The teaching artists connect their lessons to the National Core Arts Standards, and often integrate their art form with other core curriculum areas and/or HĀ principles. For more information, please visit the SFCA website: SFCA.Hawaii.gov/AITS, or contact SFCA Arts Education Specialist Nikki Rosengren at Danica.Rosengren@hawaii.gov.
Please help us get the word out! Hawaiʻi public and charter school classroom teachers, curriculum specialists, vice-principals, and principals can apply in tandem with a teaching artist from the SFCA Artistic Teaching Partner Roster. A flyer can be downloaded from the SFCA website: SY2023-24 SFCA AITS Flyer (PDF).
Interested in joining the SFCA’s Artistic Teaching Partners roster and being eligible as an artist in residence for the AITS program? Learn more about Artistic Teaching Partners: SFCA Artistic Teaching Partners Roster, and email Danica.Rosengren@hawaii.gov for more information.

Art Bento on Hiatus
After many years of successfully administering the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum's Art Bento museum education program, we will be evaluating and restructuring the program during the 2023 Fiscal Year. During this time we will be interviewing all of those involved, including teachers, teaching artists, administrators and students. Get Ready for the 2023 Hawaiʻi State Legislature Grant-In-Aid
Get ready for the Hawaiʻi State Legislature 2023 Chapter 42F (Grant-in-Aid)! The Grant-in-Aid application period typically opens in early January and closes shortly after the legislative session begins in late January. Review the 2022 GIA information at Capitol.Hawaii.gov/GIA/GIA.aspx to prepare (please note that instructions may change). For example, organizations will need a Certificate of Good Standing from the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA), which may take a few weeks to receive (learn more about how to request a Certificate of Good Standing on the DCCA website: cca.hawaii.gov/breg/faqs/general/can-i-request-a-good-standing-certificate/). Grant awards and applications are also posted with the 2022 GIA information.
There are two types of grants: Operating and Capital Improvement Project (CIP) grants. Generally, Operating grants are for an organization’s program expenses and CIP grants are for construction projects. The Legislature decides who is awarded a grant, the type of grant, the award amount, what the funds can be used for, and which state department will administer said award. Please contact the House Committee on Finance staff (808/586-6200) or Senate Committee on Ways and Means staff (808/586-6800) if you have questions.
