On Tuesday February 14, The Senate Committee on Transportation, Culture and the Arts and the Senate Committee on Government Operations heard a slate of bills relating to the SFCA (see the full list on the legislature website: capitol.hawaii.gov/sessions/session2023/hearingnotices/HEARING_TCA_02-14-23_.HTM).
The focus of attention was on SB119, Relating to the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts; Performing Arts; Works of Art Special Fund. The bill proposed to reduce Works of Art funding from construction by 50% and eliminate funding from renovations which account for an estimated 58% of revenues resulting in a devastating 75% reduction of funding. The hearing video can be viewed on YouTube: youtube.com/watch?v=GnnL8etTkl8. Testimony can be read on the legislature website: capitol.hawaii.gov/sessions/session2023/Testimony/SB1119_TESTIMONY_TCA_02-14-23_.PDF.
